EARLVILLE – The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS), the Earlville Opera House (EOH), the Huff Brau Restaurant, and the Madison County Historian’s Office are partnering for a unique “International Museum Day” celebration.

“History Where You Eat” combines local history with supporting a regional restaurant on a traditionally quieter evening. The program allows participants the opportunity to discover a bit of history about a local community and enjoy menu items unique to Central New York.

On May 18, the Huff Brau Restaurant in Earlville will host the first “History Where You Eat” of the season. The program begins in the Village Park on the northeast corner of the intersection of North/South and East/West Main streets. Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz will share how fires during the late 19th and early 20th centuries changed the architecture and businesses near the intersection.

Following this brief presentation, attendees will cross the street for an EOH behind-the-scenes-tour, led by Executive Director Michelle Connelly. The historic theater has been a major landmark in the village for more than 130 years. After this tour, participants will make their way to the Huff Brau Restaurant on West Main Street.

“We’re extremely thrilled to be co-hosting this celebration of ‘International Museum Day’ with an Earlville edition of ‘History Where You Eat,’” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “Earlville is a unique place in that it is located within both Chenango and Madison counties, giving us a unique opportunity to explore our regional heritage in a collaborative way with other community organizations.”

First established in 1939, CCHS is the primary organization dedicated to actively and comprehensively preserving the history of Chenango County. The area’s premier heritage museum, the organization celebrates local culture – unique traditions, noteworthy residents, and unusual stories of the region.
