VESTAL – The Norwich tennis team was well represented at the Section IV, Class B competition over the weekend. Sectionals were held at Vestal’s Tioga Hills Elementary Courts.
Juniors Anthony Pomares and Matthew Hall advanced to the State Qualifiers after finishing second in doubles. They had a first round bye before defeating Johnson City and Maine-Endwell. The pair lost to Vestal in the championship in two 6-3 sets.
Norwich’s Donovan Gillen and Joseph Hall also played in the doubles, where they received a first round bye. They fell to Owego’s Eli Martin and Sam Beyer in two 6-1 sets.
Liam Hunter and Kris Deuel represented the Purple Tornado in the singles. Hunter lost to Owego’s Ari Lemmon 6-4 and 6-3. Deuel earned a first round bye before falling to Vestal’s Michael Hotalen by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Pomares and Matthew Hall will compete in the State Qualifiers at the Binghamton Tennis Center on Friday, May 19.
