SPENCER – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats baseball team faced the Spencer-Van Etten/Candor Eagles in the first round of the Section IV, Class C tournament on Friday. B-G came away with a 3-1 victory to advance to the next round.

The Eagles got on the board first after a lead-off single and an RBI double in the next at-bat. The two hits and one run was the only trouble Bobcats’ pitcher Nolan Hawkins had. The senior was perfect throughout the remainder of the game. He also gave up a walk and struck out nine batters through seven strong innings.

Aside from the solid pitching, the B-G offense did their part to win the game. They collected three runs on six hits. Being down 1-0, the Bobcats answered back with two runs in the top of the second inning. With a runner in scoring position, Gavin Gifford drove in a run on a ground-out RBI. Another run scored following that play off a mishap by the defense.

Ethan Beames drove in the final run in the fourth inning on an RBI single. Beames and Julian Pruskowski each led the team with two hits at the plate while Connor Davy and Tim Kinter both had one hit in the win.

B-G heads to take on the number one seeded Trumansburg this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
