AFTON – After receiving a first round bye in the Section IV, Class D tournament, the Afton Crimson Knights hosted the Southern Cayuga Chiefs. Afton’s offense excelled to win 14-1 in five innings.
Afton scored 14 runs on 16 hits and held Southern Cayuga to three hits on the afternoon. The Chiefs only run came in the first inning before Afton answered back with two and continued with three runs in the third and nine in the fourth.
Afton’s offense was led by Justin Reeve, Ryan Wright, Jacob Wright, Carter Burns, Braden Sadlemire, Braydon Baciuska, and Hunter Baciuska. Reeve led the team with three RBIs and went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a walk as Ryan Wright went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Carter Burns also had three hits and drove in one run as Jacob Wright drove in two runs with two hits as the DH. Braydon Baciuska and Braden Sadlemire each drove in a run while Hunter Baciuska collected two hits in the win.
Both Ryan Wright and Reeve also worked strongly together on the mound. Wright went four innings and started the contest, only allowing the one run on three hits, one walk, and struck out 10 batters. Reeve finished the game in the fifth, where he walked one and struck out three batters.
Afton faces Deposit-Hancock, the defending Class D champions, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. This is the game before the Sectional championship that will be held on Friday in Sidney.
