BROOKFIELD – After a strong finish to the 2023 regular season with a 6-6 record, the Otselic Valley Vikings softball team traveled to Brookfield for the first round of the Section III, Class D tournament. The Vikings fell 9-1 to a tough Beavers team, who had defeated OV on their home field in the second to last game of the season.
Brookfield took a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the second inning and allowed OV to answered back with their lone run in the top of the third. Brookfield added one run in the bottom half of the same inning before taking control in the fifth and sixth innings.
OV’s only run came off great base running by Cassidy Will who singled, stole a base, and made a great slide at home to score on Paige Will’s RBI single. Paige hit two singles and stole three bases while Gracie Rooker added a single, but the Vikings failed to score another run off strong Brookfield pitching.
Cassidy Will threw 11 strikeouts in her final outing on the mound in her high school career for OV. The senior finished with a total of 120 strikeouts for the season. Best of luck to Cassidy and fellow senior Tori Foster. The rest of the Vikings look ahead to a new season in 2024.
