OXFORD – The 2023 Otsenango Pony League kicked off Thursday evening with Bainbridge-Guilford and Oxford facing each other for the first game. B-G, whose team name is the Thunder this summer, defeated the Blackhawks 11-5.
B-G was led by Timmy Kinter with three hits while Jack Cannistra, Parker Buttice, and Damon Seymour drove in two runs each. Kinter, Gavin Gifford, and Brayden Swartwout all drove in one run.
Aside from Kinter, Damon Seymour and Kaiden Seymour had one hit a piece in the total of five hits. All three split time on the mound. Kaiden went four innings and struck out six batters, Kinter started the fifth inning, but got in a jam and had one strikeout. Damon came in and closed the game as he pitched an inning and a third, where he struck out four batters and earned the win.
For Oxford, Caden Rifanburg led the team with two of the total five hits as Conner Dunagan, Nic Dodzweit, and Kyle Benjamin each had one hit. All four batters also drove in a run in the loss.
Nic, Caden, and Blake Barrows had time on the mound for the Blackhawks. Together, they combined for seven strikeouts.
B-G heads to Sherburne on Monday while Oxford hosts the Norwich “A” team. All Pony League games start at 6 p.m.
