NORWICH — The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) was recently awarded a donation by the Stewart’s Holiday Match program totaling $1,000. Funds go directly to support activities designed to share local history with children and families.

CCHS collaborates with other community organizations in order to develop program offerings, with Chenango County history having already been featured at several family-friendly festivities this season, including the Norwich Family YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, Chenango Valley Amateur Radio Association’s Science and Technology Fair, the South Otselic Fishing and Heritage Day, Airport Community Day, the Sherburne Arts Festival, and Chenango County Dairy Day. Look for CCHS at other local events, such as the Chenango County Fair and the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival.

“Thanks to continued investment from the Holiday Match program, we are able to extend programming beyond our museum campus,” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “Being a recipient of this support from Stewart’s Shops is always inspiring! This gift ensures that child-friendly and family-focused programs in celebration of Chenango County’s unique cultural heritage remain available throughout the region.”

Since the program’s inception in 1986, the Stewart’s Holiday Match has awarded more than $36 million to a variety of non-profit organizations. All funds allocated by the Stewart’s Holiday Match go to support programs for children 18 and under in Stewart’s market area. Program funds are comprised of a 50-50 match by Stewart’s Shops to donations made by in-store customers.

First established in 1939, CCHS is the primary organization dedicated to actively and comprehensively preserving the history of Chenango County. The area’s premier heritage museum, the organization celebrates local culture – unique traditions, noteworthy residents, and unusual stories of the region.

CCHS programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
