Published: June 22nd, 2023

OXFORD — Learn how to turn kitchen scraps from your farmers’ market purchases into fertile compost that can be used to enrich your garden soil.

Alexis Woodcock, Chenango’s Cooperative Extension Community Educator and Grow Cook Serve Coordinator, and Erica Clark, 4H educator and coordinator of the 4-H Outdoor Adventure Program, will be leading a workshop at this week’s Oxford Farmers’ Market from 10 a.m. to noon on kitchen composting basics, focusing on a variety of composting techniques and compost bins you can make and use at home.

Vendors at the Market this week will be offering a wide variety of local plant starts and seeds for the garden; fresh-picked seasonal produce; dairy products and regional cheeses; locally raised and processed beef, lamb, and pork; artisanal breads and baked goods; locally grown and milled grains and flours; herbs and teas; maple syrup and honey; hand-made soaps, lotions, and lip balms; homemade treats and toys for dogs; exquisitely hand-crafted items for the kitchen and home; and artisan fiber products from local producers. Every product straight from the skilled hands of your neighbors.
