NORWICH — The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is excited to announce the opening of its new property, Patsy’s Riverview, located at the end of Sheldon Street along the Chenango River in the City of Norwich!
The property contains five acres of beautiful riverfront with crushed stone dust walking paths, a concrete patio with benches, and grassy riverfront trail that connects to Greenway Park.
“This location is a hidden gem for the city and I believe it will quickly become a popular destination for walking, running, and biking,” said Chairperson Sharon Pelosi.
The site has been designed for ease of access with a large gravel parking area, level walking paths, and a concrete patio and benches for resting. The idea for this type of public park was first championed by Norwich’s former Mayor Fred Mirabito in the Greenbelt Plan, where he conceived of a park suitable for senior citizens with walkable pathways and a scenic vista.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy received the property in 2019 as a gift from Norwich’s Patsy and Bill Smith, who wished the property to be conserved for public use. The site development was supported with generous grants from The Frederick B. and Ramona E. Mirabito Foundation and the Chenango Soil and Water District.
The Chenango Greenway is hosting a grand celebration under a festival tent on July 29 with our special guest, Patsy Smith, to recognize her important donation to the greater Norwich community. Tickets are $50.00 and are available online at www.chenangogreenway.org/events/greenway-summer-soiree.
Admission includes food by Wild Owl Café and dancing to the music of Chenango’s favorite 15 piece band, Big Band Sounds (formerly Red Raville’s Big Band Sounds). There will be a cash bar, and ticket reservations by July 7 include a complimentary drink.
This event is made possible with generous sponsorship from NBT Bank, SFCU, the Wilson Funeral Home, Rentals To Go, Awestruck Ciders, Upstate Tool and Equipment, and Savurn Memorials.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich.
The organization oversees close to 500 acres of land in the greater Norwich area that is maintained for public outdoor recreation including the Riverwalk Trail in the City of Norwich, the Stone Quarry, Patsy’s Riverview and Three Amigos.
