NORWICH – The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging is eyeing a new site in Norwich that department leaders say may open the door for better opportunities for seniors in the Norwich area.

The agency aims to end its contract with St. Bart’s in Norwich in favor of a new deal with American Legion Post 189 – a move that would be a cost savings to the agency and foster better service to the public, according to Chenango Area Agency on Aging Director Heather Felter.

“They’re excited to bring us on board with them, and it will open up some additional potential,” she said.

What’s more, she said that the change would make the agency less prone to scheduling conflicts. The agency has needed to scrap several events in the past due to scheduling conflicts at their current venue.

“We’ve had to cancel approximately eight weeks out of the year because they’ve had other events going, and that’s a huge loss of hot meals for our seniors and social isolation.”

The Area Agency on Aging is collaborating with the county attorney to absolve their agreement with St. Bart’s and write a new agreement with Post 189. The agency hopes to have its new site open by the end of July.
