NORWICH — The Place's recent teen photography class culminated in a gallery opening at Tabryn's Marketplace, located at 17-19 South Broad Street in Norwich, on Friday, featuring four works from each of the classes participants.
The gallery will remain open for viewing through the end of the month.
In total, five local teens attended the weekly classes where they learned the ins and outs of operating a camera, finding unique composition, landscape photography, and jobs available in the photography field, taught by local photographer and artist Jill Kraft.
"We talk about F-stop, we talk about shutter speed, we talk about getting to know your equipment, we talk about the different jobs in photography, the different types of photography," Kraft explained. "Really we’ve focused a lot on macro photography with this one because of the landscape type of stuff."
The Place Teen Program Coordinator Julie Dealing said in addition to teaching area teens about photography, the class also helped attendees to gain confidence.
"I think all of our participants have a lot of anxiety overall, and I think this program really helps them come out of their shell," said Dealing. "From the first class where they don't talk to anybody at all, to the end where they’re all taking photos together and talking to me and Jill and each other. I think that’s the biggest thing, honestly."
