ONEONTA – The Norwich ‘A’ team didn’t waste anytime jumping on a big lead over Oneonta as they won 25-4. Norwich had a comfortable lead before exploding with 12 runs in the sixth inning to advance to the Otsenango PONY League Championship.

Norwich got on the board first as Kaden Downey drove in a run with a triple, his second in the last two games. The defense held Oneonta while the offense added on with seven runs in the second inning.

Norwich produced seven runs on five hits as Zack Parker drove in a pair on a double, Zac Turner with a two-run single, a bases loaded walk before Joey Parker drove in two on a single.

The Purple Tornado had a total of 23 hits on the night with Turner collecting four hits and six RBIs. Aside from the second inning, he also had two-run singles in the third and sixth innings. In the sixth inning, Norwich batted around the lineup, where Turner drove in one run his second time up.

Aside from Turner, Kaden Downey drove in five runs while brothers Zack and Joey Parker both had three RBIs as Kassen Stubb contributed with two RBIs. Jaxson Francis, Carmine Pastore, Mike Brunick, and Colin Reid each drove in on run to round out the rest of the team.

Oneonta’s four runs in the contest were mostly unearned on errors made by the defense except for in the seventh on an RBI single.

Norwich’s Carmine Pastore went the distance on the mound. He went five innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out five batters in the win. Colin Reid and Zack Parker both pitched an inning of relief.

Norwich hopes for another big offensive game against Unatego in the PONY League Championship. Unatego, who finished second in the ‘C’ division, defeated Schenenvus in the semi-finals. The championship game is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. from Damaschke Field in Oneonta.
