COLUMBUS– A man was attacked by a bull on July 19 at a residence off of County Road 25 in Columbus.

He faced suspected head injuries and was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse, said Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew Beckwith. No one else was injured, he said.

Beckwith said the man was apparently trying to lead the bull with a four wheeler when the bull attacked him.

The man then managed to get back onto the four wheeler and drive back to the residence to call 911, Beckwith said. He had passed out at the residence, Beckwith said, and when ambulances arrived, they transported him by helicopter to receive medical attention in Syracuse.

Responding emergency services included Sherburne, Chenango County and New Berlin, Beckwith said. He was unsure who the bull belonged to.

While bull attacks don’t happen frequently in the county, Beckwith said, they can be potentially life-threatening even when unprovoked.
