CHENANGO COUNTY– On Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts temperatures will feel like nearly 90 degrees in Chenango County.
According to NWS daily temperature data in Norwich, the forecasted high of 85 degrees on Friday is 4 degrees above its average high temperature. The predicted high temperature will represent one of the top five hottest days the area has seen yet this summer.
“It is imperative that residents in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic practice heat safety this week as the hottest stretch of the summer begins on Thursday and continues through Saturday,” the NWS said.
Local and state officials advise community members to take precautions, like avoiding being outdoors and staying hydrated, to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Between Thursday and Saturday, the NWS expects regions across the northeast and mid-atlantic to face record-breaking high temperatures. The NWS issued excessive heat warnings for regions like New York City that expect temperatures approaching 100 degrees.
While a heat advisory is not in Chenango County’s forecast, the NWS reported Friday morning that the area will still encounter temperatures that will feel like 89 degrees due to humidity.
According to the NWS forecast, the county’s hottest part of the day will be between 4 and 5 p.m.
