NORTH NORWICH– After sifting through hundreds of leads from community members and multiple weeks of investigating, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office tracked down and arrested one of two suspects related to a stolen $13,000 trailer in Norwich.
Michael D. Garramone, 52, was arrested in the Town of Remsen in Oneida County on July 28, according to a sheriff’s office press release. Garramone was charged with third-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy. He was released and is set to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
On July 14, Garramone and another man allegedly committed larceny from Walmart and grand larceny involving an enclosed trailer from North Norwich Motors, according to a Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. The post sought information from the public in an attempt to identify the suspects.
Undersheriff Dustin Smietana said the office received over 300 tips from community members residing in Chenango County up to Utica in Oneida County. Smietana said the office was able to receive so many leads because the truck and trailer “stood out like a sore thumb.”
Deputies from the sheriff’s office road patrol and detective divisions followed up on the tips and camera footage to identify a direction of travel from Norwich to the Village of Waterville, where Detective Sgt. Chad O’Hara said they obtained video footage of the suspects entering a Circle K.
