GREENE — The Impact Project, based in Greene, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Chenango County and other surrounding areas by providing assistance for home renovations, financing and construction.

Two local residents who were recently approved and benefited from the program are homeowners Gary Quarella and his wife Nellie. He explained his wife has a condition that paralyzes the body. She has had partial paralysis since 2017 and had been home until February this year, when she started having trouble breathing. She has been in the hospital and Bridgewater rehab center ever since.

“It was tough on her to access the bathroom, in particular the bathtub,” Quarella said.

The doctor recommended safety transfer chair didn't fit the older jet tub as the chairs legs weren't long enough. Turner Construction had previously upgraded the bathroom tub about 16 years ago, so Quarella reached back out to Terry Turner for a quote to replace the tub and create a solid sink base with grab bars.

“We now had our contractor in place but still needed financial help. That's when we contacted The Impact Project to see if their program could help us with the finances,” he added.

The Impact Project Executive Director James Willard III said, “Gary Quarella reached out to us for financial support for the bathroom handicap modifications. He had Turner Construction lined up as his contractor but still needed some help to move forward.”
