The Inaugural Norwich High School Alumni block party kicks off this weekend The Norwich City School District, Commerce Chenango and The Norwich Alumni Committee present The Inaugural Norwich High School (NHS) Alumni weekend Friday September 1 through Sunday September 3. Friday kicks off with a block party from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lackawanna Avenue including Alumni sign up, pep rally, food trucks, and more. The weekend schedule provides a Captain and Crew golf tournament at the Canasawacta Country Club, NHS bus ride to Colgate Campus to watch the Tornado's play Batavia, coffee and donuts at the Northeast Classic Car Museum, and finishes off with evening entertainment at Hidden Springs Brewery. NORWICH — The Norwich City School District, Commerce Chenango and The Norwich Alumni Committee present The Inaugural Norwich High School (NHS) Alumni weekend to be held Sept. 1 through 3.

Event planner Mindy Chawgo said they’re celebrating past, present, and future tornado families but said she doesn’t want the word alumni to guide anyone to think it’s only for the Norwich graduate.

“We want everyone that celebrates community, that supports community, and that believes in community, to show that together we are the future of community,” Chawgo said.

Chawgo explained this is the first year they have compiled activities they thought would bring everyone together and they have plans to include even more activities in the following years.

“We hope everyone finds something they want to attend over the weekend and celebrate purple and white,” she added.

According to the event planner, the following are scheduled:

Friday, September 1

Block Party kick off from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lackawanna Avenue.

Four food vendors will be on site to include: Kozmo’s Eatery, Joes Food Shack, S&S Food Truck, and Nina’s Pizzaria and Madrona Tasting Room.

Nate Gross will play music in the street from 5 to 9 p.m. with Rita’s and Park Place hosting and serving drinks.

In East Park from 4-9 p.m. Alumni can meet under the tents in the park to sign up for their graduating year and meet with classmates. Snow cones and Norwich swag will be sold.

The Alumni game starts at 4 p.m. at the high school field and all are invited to go watch the alumni run the field.

The Tornados and Cyclones football teams and cheerleaders will be announced at 6 p.m. with a pep rally after. Announcements will also be made of some the oldest and furthest traveled attendees with a slide show providing years of memories.

A bonfire at 8 p.m. will bring the first day of festivities to a close.

Saturday, September 2

The Captain and Crew Golf Tournament will start at 10 a.m. at the Canasawacta Country Club. Call the country club to register.

At 3 p.m. Tornado fans can hop on the NHS fan bus to watch the Tornados play Batavia on Andy Kerr Stadium Field 5 at Colgate Campus. The bus leaves from Grand Union parking lot at 3:30 p.m.. Call 607-334-1400 by August 29 to register for the ride.

Sunday, September 3

The Alumni party wrap up starts at 8:30 to 10 a.m. with coffee and donuts at the Northeast Classic Car Museum and an inclusive trip down memory lane through the museum’s history-filled halls.

Last but not least, from 12 to 3 p.m. the alumni weekend finishes off at Hidden Springs Brewery for the end all celebration and entertainment by Alumni Grady Thompson.
