NORWICH – Chenango County has selected ClearVote as the county’s new voting system following its recent certification by the New York State Board of Elections. The ClearVote suite is Boston-based election technology company Clear Ballot’s first full voting system release in the Empire State, and includes ClearCast Go, a next generation precinct tabulator, and ClearMark, an accessible ballot marking device that was designed specifically for New York.
Clear Ballot currently operates in more than 40 New York counties, as an absentee tabulation, post-election audit system, and now as an in-person voting solution. Democratic Election Commissioner Carly Hendricks and Republican Election Commissioner Mary Lou Monahan are looking forward to ushering in a new era in Chenango County, with the new machines ready to be deployed countywide for the November 7, 2023 election.
“The ClearCast Go and ClearMark are easier to use for our voters, and our poll workers will have more efficient setup and tear-down times on Election Day,” said Hendricks and Monahan. “The arrival of the new machines has been anticipated for a very long time, so having the certification process completed is very exciting.”
“We are proud of the strong relationships we have with election officials all across New York as their audit and absentee partner, and we look forward to strengthening those relationships as we begin working with Chenango and other counties as their in-person voting system partner,” said Clear Ballot CEO Bob Hoyt. “We designed ClearVote 2.4 to specifically meet the needs of New York counties and received important feedback from our customers that was integrated into the design process. We believe that ClearVote is going to be transformative in New York.”
Clear Ballot is committed to continuous innovation while staying true to its mission of tabulating voter-verifiable paper ballots. With the certification of ClearCast Go, Clear Ballot is introducing their new, cutting-edge precinct tabulator in New York featuring an intuitive user interface for voters and a durable, ATA-style case that has been designed to transport equipment safely and securely. ClearCast Go offers a quick, easy poll setup and breakdown, saving poll workers valuable time on Election Day.
ClearVote 2.4 includes ClearMark, Clear Ballot’s ADA-compliant accessible ballot marking device that was designed and built for New York and usability tested at the world-renowned Perkins School for the Blind. Housed in a matching ATA-style case, ClearMark is easy for poll workers to set up and prints full-faced, undifferentiated paper ballots to ensure voters can cast their ballots privately and independently. All of Clear Ballot’s equipment is manufactured in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Clear Ballot is committed to bringing new technology to elections in New York and plans to release regular updates to their suite of voting solutions to help support counties as they adapt to the changing elections landscape.
“While this is our first voting system release in New York, we know that it won’t be our last, and we look forward to supporting election officials here in the Chenango County and the Empire State for years to come,” said CEO Bob Hoyt.
The Chenango County Board of Elections is also recruiting new poll workers to attend certification training to be able to work at countywide polling sites. If you would like to find out more about becoming a poll worker, for which you are compensated, please call the office at 607-337-1760.
