NORWICH — The first “Appalachian Save a Life Day” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 14 at The Turning Point located at 24 East Main Street. All attendees will receive one Narcan kit and training, plus local resource information.
Executive Director of Chenango Health Network (CHN) Kimberly Lorraine said, “Chenango Health Network is excited to partner with Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties (FORDO) on this event.”
Thirteen Appalachian states will be hosting over 300 free Naloxone events on this day and events can be found at www.savealifeappalachia.org. A common brand of Naloxone is Narcan; it's an easy-to-use nasal spray medication with no adverse side effects that works to reverse opioid overdoses.
She said the more opportunities the community has to learn about Narcan, the more the stigma can decrease regarding people who use drugs. Anyone who wants to be prepared to save a life is welcome to join the 5 to 10 minute training.
“Everyone is someone's brother, father, cousin, or child and deserves a chance to live another day and make a different choice,” she added.
Appalachian Save a Life Day Coordinator Iris Sidikman said this day of action is about showing how Appalachia is also a place people can look for solutions.
