GREENE – With the two teams dominating in their own individual matches, it was time for the Oxford Blackhawks and the Greene Trojans to play each other on the course. Both teams have seen strength from their top golfers so far this season, but one team had to win.
Greene came out on top 214-231 at home to improve to 3-1. The Trojans were led by its top pair of Lincoln Youngs and Parker Flanagan. Youngs shot an all-around low of 37 with Flanagan right behind him with a 38 on the par-35 course.
Noah Symons followed pursuit with a 44 as Austin Dehaan shot a 47 and Hunter Becker rounded out the team scoring with a 48. Trent Drew received playing time as the sixth golfer.
Bennett Paden continues to be the top medalist for the Blackhawks and shot the team’s lowest of a 42. Jerry Hornbeck and Sylas Emerson both tied with a 45 as Degan Endress had a 49 and Caden Rifanburg capped off the scoring with a 50. Kyle Benjamin also played as the sixth golfer.
Greene (3-1) will host Hancock on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. while Oxford hosts Delhi on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
It won’t be long until the two neighbors face off again. In fact, the next match will be on Monday at Oxford’s Bluestone Golf Course, where the home team will always have a slight advantage in the sport of golf.
