NORWICH – The Chenango Arts Council has announced their 2023-24 Season line up.
Not only does it promise to be the biggest yet, but it comes at a time when Downtown Revitalization Funds will allow for improvements to the lighting, sound, and seating of their beautiful Martin W. Kappel Theater.
The season opens with a beloved Neil Simon Comedy, Barefoot in the Park. Not only can theater lovers see this hilarious classic, but they have a chance to be a part of it. Community players from The Norwich Theater Company will be the stars, meaning roles on and backstage will be performed by local thespians. Instead of one showing, there will be three, October 6, 7 & 8, 2023.
On October 28, audiences will be treated to a spooky Halloween show guaranteed to be one of a kind. Three talented musicians, Elizabeth Simchik, Kristen Kopf and Jeff Ingersoll will perform a specially arranged score to the 1920 John Barrymore horror film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Film & Strings: Jekyll and Hyde will allow people to experience a silent movie as was originally intended, as a community, on a big screen and with live music playing alongside.
For this season’s Holiday Show, New York Theatre Ballet has put together a special performance with selections from The Nutcracker as well as both Firebird and Merce Cunningham’s Scramble in their entirety.
The magical evening of December 13 will be capped off with a meet and greet where attendees can ask the dancers questions about ballet.
Spring A-Ding -Ding will be in full swing on May 11, 2024. This is a cirque style specular complete with aerial stunts, juggling, contortion, and a charming story about woodland creatures and the changing of the seasons. Geared towards children, all ages will be delighted with the costumes, skill and humor.
Season tickets are available and offer savings. CAC members can save additional money on tickets as well as workshops, such as ceramics, art journaling and greeting card crafting, which are open for registration now at ChenangoArts.org. People can also renew or purchase memberships and tickets to individual shows. For season tickets, please call (607) 336-2787.
