GREENE – It was a battle between the Greene Trojans and the Unadilla Valley/GMU boys’ soccer teams in the opening round of the 13th annual Greene boys’ tournament. Both teams were scoreless until the second half of overtime. Greene won 1-0 to move on to the championship game.

Both teams had plenty of opportunities to score but the opposing defenses and goalkeepers stood their ground. Greene saw many shots on goal coming in the second half of play, where they had chances on a free kick and on several corner kicks, but waited until overtime to net one through.

Kloden Rapp sent the Greene crowd home happy, taking advantage of a pass from Jon Westcott to put one past the Storm’s Tucker Cattanach with about a minute and a half into the second overtime period.

UV/GMU saw many touches off the feet of Devon Hartwell and Haywood Edwards, but couldn’t find the rhythm to connect at the right time. Jackson Roth was impressive in goal for the Trojans in the win.

Greene picked up their second MAC league win of the season in four games played and will seek revenge after losing to Chenango Forks 1-0 in the tournament championship last year. UV/GMU will face Windsor in the consolation game. Windsor defeated UV/GMU 6-3 in 2022, but the Storm are looking to change that outcome this year.

The consolation game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the championship game to follow at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
