GREENE – After two hard contests, the Greene Trojans field hockey team was glad to get back on track with a 3-1 victory over Sidney. Greene pushed through in the final two quarters to come away with their sixth win of the season.
Sidney got on the board early to take a brief 1-0 lead at halftime. The Wildcats also received many penalty corners to set them up in good scoring position, but the Trojans defense stood their ground,
With good pressure from the defense, this allowed Greene to find breakaways to tie and take the overall lead.
Greene came out fierce in the second half of play as Josie Dutcher tied the game at one apiece with a high shot that made its way through everyone. She also was a key player with two assists.
Nadia Brown put the game away with two goals in the fourth quarter off passes from Dutcher. Her first goal was off a breakaway from Dutcher, who passed the ball over and Brown scored from the left side of the box. The second goal sealed the deal with a short pass near the middle of the net with three minutes left in regulation.
Although Sidney looked threatening, they were held to just three shots on goal with Braelyn Blakeslee and Tati Wells doing a great job in net for the Trojans.
Greene (6-5) has four regular season games remaining and will travel to Deposit/Hancock on Friday at 7 p.m.
