Greene 50, Unadilla Valley 14

NEW BERLIN – Greene stopped a two-game losing streak, and most importantly, won its division opener racing past Unadilla Valley on Friday night.

Jaden Eroshevich and Joel Vielandi sparked the Trojans’ offense in the first half.

Vielandi scored on a TD run, and Eroshevich threw a pair of TD passes lifting the Trojans (2-2) to a 28-0 lead at halftime.

“The first play of the game went for approximately 62 yards to (UV’s) eight,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “It was a really good first half, and I can remember (during the game) at least five plays of 40 yards or more.”

The biggest momentum builder for the Trojans was a 92-yard scoring drive with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

Eroshevich hooked up with Bill Dunlap on a 40-yard completion to spark the scoring drive.

“We had a lot of kids play emotional football this week after being a little flat last week,” Gorton said. “We were more into the game and executed better – except maybe the third quarter. I think, maybe, we were trying to be too cute.”

UV was sparked by two big defensive plays that accounted for the sum of its offense.

The first was an interception return for a touchdown, and a second Storm TD was set up after another Greene turnover.

Wyatt Meade accounted for the first UV scored returning the interception 14 yards for six. Later on, Isaiah Salimbangon helped the Storm capitalize on the second Greene turnover scoring his team’s second touchdown on a two-yard run.

Greene responded with a 57-yard TD toss from Eroshevich to Vielandi, and backup quarterback Michael Slater dashed 70 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Vielandi finished with four touchdowns in the game.

“We told the team that if you win the division, you get into the playoffs,” Gorton said. “Obviously we want to continue our streak of playoff appearances, and we have a big game at Unatego next week.”
