OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks girls soccer team hosted MAC opponent Greene on Senior night, coming away with a 3-1 victory. A big celebration for their lone senior Jocie Finch, which they nicknamed the game “Jocie night.”
Oxford scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Colette Kappauf scored the first Blackhawks goal off a rebounded shot. Kayla Knapp crossed the ball over to Taegan Manwarren, who had just missed having her own goal but picked up the assist as Kappauf recovered.
The second goal was by Kayla off a pass from Manwarren, which she was able to take a long shot to the right side of the net passed goalkeeper Molly Cornell.
Both teams continued to play competitive despite Oxford’s advantage. Greene started having more offensive opportunities halfway through the second half. The Trojans picked up a direct kick on a foul and Caitlin Walls shot the ball in net to give Greene some momentum.
Oxford, keeping its confidence going, took the ball down field within a minute of Greene’s goal. Taegan Manwarren delivered another great pass to Kayla Knapp, who this time shot it from the left side. Knapp finished with two goals while Manwarren earned three assists in the win.
With this win, Oxford is 3-7 on the season with being 2-5 in the MAC league overall. The Blackhawks travel to Bainbridge-Guilford on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Greene falls to 1-6-1 and travels to Unadilla Valley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
