Thomas Genese, MD, MBA, CPE, FACP, joined the Norwich hospital in early September in the newly created position of Vice President of Medical Affairs and Community Health.

“We are very pleased to have someone of Dr. Genese’s background and commitment joining us in this important physician leadership role,” said Drake Lamen, MD, president and chief executive officer/chief medical officer of UHS Chenango Memorial.

Genese has served since 2017 as director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UHS Wilson Medical Center, and since 2022 as the medical director for rural health for the United Health Services system. Previously he held clinical posts with St. Mary’s Hospital/Yale University, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

“Dr. Genese’s experience as a primary care provider, rural medical director and medical educator make him a valuable new addition to our senior team, and we’re excited to see the impact he has as we continue to evolve as a healthcare institution,” Lamen said.

“We’ve set the stage with the wonderful new and modern facilities we’ve created through our strategic investments over the last five years. I look forward to seeing what Dr. Genese helps us accomplish, both within our hospital and across our community.”

Speaking of his new role at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, Genese said he was looking forward to learning about the community, as well as becoming involved in support and outreach activities.

“I personally value and cherish the role that community hospitals and clinics serve and enjoy serving within them because of the direct impact they have on the local community,” he explained.

“Whatever impact I have at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, I will always be mindful of improving the lives of our communal neighborhood.”
