NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls swim team returned to its home pool to face Greene on Tuesday night. Norwich came away with a 73-42 victory over the Trojans. This win comes after competing in the Maine-Endwell Invitational last weekend, where Norwich took fifth.
The Purple Tornado and the Trojans both took two event victories, where only one team had participants. Norwich won the 200 yard medley relay with Julia Llewellyn, Nina Kman, Aurora Shtrauch, and Mikayla Sastri making up the lone team in the event. Aurora Shtrauch won the 100 yard butterfly as the lone competitor.
Greene picked up two wins in the 100 yard breaststroke and in the 400 yard freestyle relay events.
Aurora Shtrauch also earned a win in the 500 yard freestyle over Greene’s Keeli Roe. Aurora’s sister Alex achieved first place over Roe in the 200 yard freestyle.
Nina Kman and Julia Llewellyn took first and second place respectively in the 200 yard individual medley event while Greene’s Mallory Jeffery finished third. Llewellyn also won the 100 yard freestyle with the Trojans’ Alexis Clark and Corrine Dicenzo behind her in second and third place.
Norwich’s Mikayla Sastri finished first in the 50 yard freestyle with Aurora Shtrauch in second place. Greene’s Alexis Clark came in third while teammates Corrine Dicenzo and Louise Mendolia took fourth and fifth place.
Norwich won the 200 yard freestyle relay over Greene with a team of Sastri, Llewellyn, Aurora Shtrauch, and Kman swimming the fastest time of 2:01.04. Greene’s Mendolia, Jeffery, Dicenzo, and Clark swam a time of 2:55.48 for second place.
Both teams have meets coming up this evening. Norwich hosts Chenango Forks at 5:30 p.m. while Greene travels to Dryden at 4:30 p.m.
