Cross Country: Norwich And UV/GMU Compete At Whitney Point Invite

WHITNEY POINT – The Norwich Purple Tornado and the Unadilla Valley/GMU cross country teams were back in action on Tuesday for the Whitney Point Invitational. Both teams ran consistently in the meet with UV/GMU boys placing fifth.

Noah Pain led the Storm boys with a second place finish, just 41 seconds behind the leader, as he ran the 5000 meter run in 18:42. Teammate Alex Kemnah came in 13th with a time of 19:59 as Ben Kemnah finished 38th (22:06). Dominic Berthel completed his run in 24:39 for 51st place and Aidan James rounded out the team’s scoring in 53rd place (24:48) out of 64 male runners.

Norwich’s Nic Sutton had a strong top 10 finish in seventh place with a time of 19:16. Teammate Gabe Decker came in 46th place (23:48) and Ayden Hatton in 61st place (31:02) in a field of 64 male runners.

Andrea Favinger led UV/GMU in the girls race with a seventh place finish as she ran the 5000 meter run in 23:18. Norwich’s Annie Boland (25:32) and Kyra Brunick-Davis (25:44) followed each other with 14th and 15th place finishes.

Emilia Pepe finished 20th as she ran a time of 27:24 for the Purple Tornado as teammate Laci Zieno finished in 38:45 for 39th place in a field of 40 female runners.

Norwich heads to the STAC Championships on Saturday, October 21, starting at 11 a.m. while UV/GMU waits until October 26 for the MAC Championships, starting at 4 p.m.
