OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks volleyball team hosted Deposit/Hancock on Thursday evening, where both teams battled throughout five matches. Deposit/Hancock came away with the 3-2 victory in one of the closest matches of the season.
“Tonight's matchup was incredible. Both teams fought tough for their wins and it was a great opportunity for every one of the Oxford girls to play in the last home game,” Oxford coach Kim Martin said.
In a bittersweet season-ending game, Oxford stayed strong and kept every score close. The Blackhawks won the second set by a score of 25-21 and also won the fourth set (25-14), which sent the game into a final fifth set.
Oxford’s Ava Benjamin finished with 19 assists while Kassidy Miller had five. Brianna Fowlston and Quinnlin LaMonica both had seven kills while Leah Oliver had six and Mya-Rae Roys finished with five kills. Quinnlin also had two blocks and three digs as Roys added nine digs and Emerson LaMonica contributed with three digs in the loss.
