UV Hosts MAC Cross Country Championships

NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm cross country teams hosted the 2023 MAC championships last Thursday, which also featured local Afton/Harpursville/Bainbridge-Guilford. Delhi/South Kortright won both the boys and girls championship races.

Boys:

The Storm boys took third place behind Delhi/South Kortright and Sidney while Afton/Harpursville/B-G finished fourth. Both teams had at least five male runners to achieve team scoring with A/H/B-G having seven.

Paving the way for UV/GMU was Noah Pain with a third place finish (18:52) with teammate Alex Kemnah behind him in fourth place (19:33). Ben Kemnah came in 18th place with a time of 21:25 as Aidan James finished 28th (23:27). Dominick Berthel (35th), Lucas Donato (39th), and Zach Wilson (41st) rounded out the team’s scoring.

Afton/Harpursville/B-G was led by Rowan Beasinger in 24th place and ran a time of 22:08 with Giovanni Johnson not far behind in 27th (23:24). Cooper Sienko took 33rd with teammate Matt Wombacker respectively behind him in 34th. Connor Rowe wrapped up the day with a 44th place finish with a time of 26:55 in a field of 45 male runners.

Girls:

Afton/Harpursville/B-G finished behind Delhi/South Kortright (21 points) in second place with a score of 41 points. The girls built up a great team score with seven of eight female runners earning points.

UV/GMU’s Andrea Favinger continues to led the Storm as she finished eighth with a time of 22:17. Abbie Converse also earned experience with a 35th place finish, but her placement was not included in the team score.

A/H/B-G’s Ethne Degan continues to excel in all things running as she finished in second place, just 10 seconds behind the leader (19:50) as she ran an exact 20 minutes. Maddie Ingham has also been a strong runner for this combined team. She finished in sixth place with a time of 21:38.

Lelania Baldwin took 13th (23:51) with Vanessa Brazee behind her in 14th (24:18). Laila Williams was not far behind them with a 16th place finish (24:43) while Jalyn Winans came in 18th place (25:30).

Ruth Wilson wrapped up Afton/Harpursville/Bainbridge-Guilford’s team scoring with a 28th place finish with a time of 28:05. Sage Pruskowski finished 30th, but her placement was not included with the final points. There were a total of 37 female runners in this meet.

Both teams now prepare for the Sectionals held at Chenango Valley State Park scheduled for Thursday, November 2nd.
