NORWICH – The City of Norwich Youth Bureau enjoyed a successful Summer recreational program seeing its largest number of participants since 2011.
This summer the Youth Bureau had 722 kids, and adults, register for their recreation programs and trips. The Youth Bureau offered eleven recreational programs this summer: baseball, softball, basketball, cheer, dance, flag football, pickleball, soccer, summer fun club, swimming lessons and tennis.
Plus, they offered five trips this summer to Howe Caverns, the Museum of Science and Technology, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, The Wild Animal Park, and Water Safari.
Swimming lessons were our most popular activity this year, with over 231 kids from 0 to 18 in age taking swimming lessons. Lessons were offered at Kurt Beyer Pool in the mornings. New to the programs this year was the dance program.
Dance was taught at the Donna Frech School of Dance, where the students learned basic dance steps. Dance was an extremely popular choice, filling to capacity within a week of opening registration. All the sport programs are non-competitive, instructional programs geared toward the child having fun, while learning the sport or activity.
