The employees of the Preferred Mutual Insurance Company recently held a food drive for the Unadilla Valley Food Pantry. Robin Martin reported a “huge” success which can be seen by the number of boxes of non-perishable food delivered to the pantry. While most items can be purchased by the pantry through the Regional Food Bank of CNY, soup is one item in big demand which is not always available. The pantry received a variety of soups which will make our neighbors very happy over the winter months.
The insurance company, which was founded in New Berlin in 1896 by Frank Holmes, has a long history of being a good neighbor and working to improve life in their home town. The food pantry has been the beneficiary of their good will on many occasions. The insurance company employees, Robin Martin, Brian Burchill, Dalynn Ward and Rachel Stark were able to learn more about the pantry, and helped stock the shelves. They gained a greater appreciation of the job done by the volunteers of the pantry.
The food pantry is a community sponsored organization which is located at the First United Methodist Church. It is supported by the New Berlin community and serves people residing in the Unadilla Valley School District.
