NORWICH — It's a new month and a new giveaway from Helping Hands, a Norwich-based non profit group of volunteers that aim to support community members with free giveaways of essential needs, food and supplies.
Every month, Helping Hands organizes bags of inventory for family needs at the Norwich Family YMCA, located at 68-70 North Broad Street. This month the contributions will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 16.
Items are given with no questions asked and anyone can drive through or walk up to pick up what they need.
According to Helping Hands Social Media page, Founder Lorri Race thanked Kerry Bio-Science for sending in volunteers last month and also for the monetary donation. She also thanked NBT Bank, Grand Union, and the army of volunteers from Chobani.
Chobani founder, Chairman, and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya made a guest appearance at the October giveaway and his Chobani team packed sandwiches, donated items, and joined in passing out the donations.
Gilligan’s Restaurant in Sherburne will be hosting a give back night for Helping Hands from 4 p.m. to closing on Wednesday, November 15. Mention Helping Hands to the server or cashier and they will donate a percentage of the evenings business to Helping Hands. Eat in or dine out and help a good cause.
Race said each week they are continually amazed at how many people come together to help make a difference, and added the Emmanuel Episcopal Church brings hot meals to share in the give away.
