NORWICH – On Friday, the Norwich Basketball boosters hosted its annual ‘Meet the Team’ event, which featured current Norwich JV and Varsity boys and girls players as well as alumni participating in various competitions.
The event was the first year the Boosters included the girls basketball team while they brought back the event just last year for the boys.
Both the JV and Varsity teams were introduced before the competitions began. JV teams (boys and girls) competed against Varsity in a three-point competition before competing against the alumni. There was also a relay competition, where teams had to pick one person to shoot a layup, one person to make a free-throw, one person to make a three-point shot, and lastly one person to make a half-court shot. Teams had five minutes to complete the event, where two teams quickly finished within 30 seconds.
The event concluded with the alumni game with a great turnout for both boys and girls. The girls played a five on five 20 minute game that was thrilling as it went into overtime. The boys also played fiercely in their game as well. Many of the alumni represented the class of 2017 while others were from the class of 2015 and the rest from the early 2010s with a few who graduated a little before that.
Overall, it was a great turnout to get everyone pumped up for the 2023 season.
