GREENE – On Tuesday, the Greene Trojans boys’ swim team hosted Waverly for the second swim meet of the season. Both teams were competitive throughout the meet, but Waverly came away with the close 64-62 victory.
Despite the loss, Greene had multiple swimmers achieve new personal bests. Drake Malmquist earned a new personal best in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.95 seconds for the top position. He also swam in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:18.03. Sophomore Andrew Roberts also achieved a new personal best in the 50 yard freestyle as he swam the event in 36.48 seconds for sixth place. Hunter Becker earned first place in the same event (27.45 seconds) while Izan Romero Requena finished fifth (35.24 seconds)
Becker also picked up a first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, where he completed the event in 6:32.42, with senior Gavin Demars behind him in second place.
Austin deHaan and Jon Westcott continued to improve in their respective events as well. deHaan picked up two second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle and in the 100 yard breaststroke while Westcott finished third in the same breaststroke event just a few seconds behind. Westcott earned second place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.91, which was 12 seconds behind Waverly’s leader (1:00.51).
Greene (0-2) looks to continue working on its strengths as the team heads to Lansing on Friday at 5 p.m.
