SHERBURNE – It was an intense battle to the finish as the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders boys basketball team hosted CSC league opponent Sauquoit Valley on Thursday.
Both teams fought through, but it was the Red Hawks that took the 70-66 victory in the high-scoring affair.
S-E was down by three points at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. The Marauders were able to push through and continue playing up tempo with Sauquoit Valley to force the game into overtime. The Red Hawks achieved the overall advantage as they went five-for-six at the free-throw line and had help from three of five leading scorers. S-E’s overtime efforts were led by Nick Hull and Aaron Key, who just came up short.
S-E’s Dilen Maceda pushed through with 22 points in the contest, laying down three three’s as Hull knocked down two three-pointers with 15 points. Garret Winton finished with eight points as Key had six in the loss. These two teams will meet again on January 26.
