Winter Track: BGAH And Oxford/Greene Compete In Cortland’s “It’s About Time” Meet

CORTLAND – Coming off short rest, the Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville and the Oxford/Greene indoor track teams traveled back to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday for the “It’s About Time” meet. Both teams had solid performances on the day in the meet before Christmas break. Full results can be found on ny.milesplit.com.

BGAH:

Girls:

The BGAH girls were led by quick speed from Ethne Degan, Maddie Ingham, and Vanessa Brazee, who have been notable names throughout this season as well as prior seasons.

Degan continues to excel in her prominent 1000 meter run event, coming away with first place in 3:06.47. Teammate Lelania Baldwin finished third, setting a new personal best time of 3:34.68 as Macey LaFever set a new best time of 3:59.15 in 11th place. LaFever also competed in the 1500 meter run, where the seventh grader ran a new best 6:43.66, which was good for ninth place.

Aside from Degan, Maddie Ingham achieved first place in the 300 meter dash with a time of 46.87 seconds. She also earned a new personal best time of 8.20 seconds in the 55 meter dash, where she came in 12th place. Vanessa Brazee rounded out the top female runners for BGAH with a second place finish in the 3000 meter run, which featured just two participants.

Elanor Sprow led the Bears in the fielding events with a fourth place finish in the triple jump. She tied for fourth with a jump of 29 feet, nine inches. Emily Sprow accomplished a new personal best jump of four feet, four inches for sixth place as Makayla McCloud finished seventh in the long jump with a new best jump of 14-4.75. BGAH’s Allison Hauptmann finished 10th in the girls shot put event (23-6.25).

Boys:

Kevin Lang, Declyn Marshfield, and Thomas Joyce led the BGAH boys team with top finishes on the day. The trio, along with Julian Pruskowski, finished in third place in the boys 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:41.78, which was very close to second place (1:41.70) and a second off the leader’s 1:40.32.

Lang also competed in the 600 meter run, where he earned a new personal best time of 1:41.21 that was good for third place. Thomas Joyce finished eighth in the same event with his new personal best of 1:43.84. Joyce also accomplished a new best time of 41.48 in the 300 meter dash, where he came in seventh.

BGAH senior Ashton Adams picked up one point for sixth place in the 55 meter hurdles, which he ran a new best of 10.38 seconds. Teammate Tim Barnett finished 10th with his new best time of 10.90.

Declyn Marshfield set a new personal record in the shot put event with a throw of 32 feet, nine and a half inches for seventh place. Matthew Wombacker rounded out the day for BGAH with a sixth place finish in the pole vault (7-0).

OX/GR:

Girls:

While the Oxford/Greene girls did not have many athletes participating in this meet, they did celebrate a big accomplishment as senior Rhea Malmquist set a new record in the girls’ shot put. She threw for a new personal best 25 feet, five and a half inches, which was good for fifth place. She is first on the shot put leaders’ list as a Greene student-athlete, but is second to Oxford’s Alexis Kohlhepp’s record of 32-10.25 in 2020. This is also Rhea’s first year of track. Junior Shanna Krupp came in 11th place with a throw of 23-5.5.

Boys:

The Oxford/Greene boys were in full force in Wednesday’s meet where the team of Lazarus Ludolph, Nic Richette, Bartalo Bourn, and Eddie Golden finished fifth in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:51.19. Following the team’s solid performance, each of the men did well in their own individual events.

Golden and Bourn paved the way with competing in two events. Golden’s top finish was in the 1000 meter run, where he took fifth place with a new best time of 3:15.88. He also ran in the 300 meter dash, coming away with a ninth place finish in 1:44.32. Bourn finished eighth in the 55 meter hurdles, which he finished in 10.66 seconds.

Bourn also lead the Blackhawks with a fourth place finish in the pole vault (8-0). Oxford/Greene’s Issac Utter finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, four and a half inches.

Both BGAH and Oxford/Greene are expected to compete in the CNY Holiday Classic at Utica University, among other local Chenango County teams, on Wednesday, December 27.
