Sheriff Arrests Home Health Aide For Stealing More Than $50k From Victim’s Homes

COLUMBUS – On December 21, a Town of Columbus resident and home health assistant was arrested for several felonies after allegedly stealing ten of thousands of dollars from her clients.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division arrested Tracy L. Boyer following a six-month investigation involving multiple complaints of burglaries and thefts.

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting said investigators found that while Boyer was working as a Home Health Aide, she was stealing from her clients.

Boyer, age 45, a Town of Columbus resident, is charged with 2nd and 3rd degree grand larceny, two counts of 2nd degree burglary, and two counts of 5th degree conspiracy, all felonies.

She is also charged with making false written statement, and 6th degree conspiracy, misdemeanors.

According to police, one complaint reported more than $50,000 was stolen, another complaint claimed $3,000 was stolen, and another reported numerous items of jewelry being taken.

Cutting reported that during the investigation Boyer did confess to manipulating and assisting another individual to knowingly and unlawfully, gain access to the residence. During the investigation of a separate incident, Boyer also solicited a friend to knowingly write a false written statement, reported police.

During this investigation the sheriff’s detectives had assistance from a member of the New York State Police Major Crimes Unit.

All crimes described are allegations, and suspects named are innocent of the charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
