NEW BERLIN - The Greene Trojans girls' basketball team claimed their second UV holiday tournament title with a 46-34 victory over Sherburne-Earlville. The Trojans are still going strong with only one loss on the season and defeated both UV and S-E in the tournament.
Greene started off hot with a big run in both opening quarters, holding S-E to a combined 12 points in the first half. Greene took a 26-12 lead at halftime before extending it in the second half. However, the game got a bit closer as the Trojans got into some foul troubles. S-E scored all but two points at the foul line in the final fourth quarter. Despite slowing down on offense in the third quarter, Greene still held on to the victory to pick up their fifth win of the season.
Josie Dutcher, who was named tournament MVP, scored a team-high of 13 points as Abby Yahner, also a tournament all-star, followed with 12 points. Cali Knapp, who also earned all-tournament honors, had nine points in the win.
Chesnee Miller led all scorers with 14 points for S-E as Alyse Brown went seven-for-14 at the foul line to finish with nine points in the loss. Miller and Hannah Todd-Rogers received all-tournament honors for the Marauders.
Greene resumes MAC league play as they host UV on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. while S-E (7-4) travels to Mount Markham on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
