WEST WINFIELD – After finishing runner-up in the UV Holiday tournament over break, the Sherburne-Earlville Lady Marauders returned to their regular schedule, where they faced Mount Markham on Wednesday. S-E swept the two-game series against their CSC opponent with a 49-36 victory, improving to 8-4 on the season.
Both teams battled it out in the first half with S-E taking a brief 21-20 point lead at halftime. The Mustangs reached for the lead and achieved it midway through the third quarter. However, S-E put a stop to their threats quickly, holding them to just a single point in the final eight minutes alone.
With such toughness on defense, this effort allowed S-E a confidence boost on offense. Its top seniors, Alex Grzymkowski, Chesnee Miller, and Hannah Todd-Rogers picked up the pace and strived in the second half alone, having each contributed with eight points.
Miller led the team with a high of 14 points and added on eight assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Grzymkowski finished behind her with 13 points. Having been limited in the game against Greene, Hannah Todd-Rogers picked up the pace to record a double-double on the night against the Mustangs. The 5’9’’ senior posted 11 points and excelled with a team-high 12 rebounds in the win.
S-E (8-4) sits behind Little Falls in the Center State Conference Division I standings and is ranked fourth in the conference alone. The Marauders look to stay strong as they host Canastota on Friday at 7 p.m.
