WAVERLY – Coming off a big win against Windsor, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ basketball team traveled to Waverly, falling short 48-41. The Purple Tornado are still at a comfortable pace and sit at 4-3 on the season and are in good shape in the STAC league as well.

Waverly came out strong in the first quarter, posting 20 points. However, Norwich kept up with the Wolverines up until the final eight minutes, but could not take the lead once. In the final quarter, both teams were at a stand still with being limited on offense. Norwich was held to only a basket and a free-throw and couldn’t make a big run to attempt a comeback. They also missed crucial free-throws that pressured them in the end.

Josey Ryan led the Purple Tornado with 17 points and knocked down three three’s in her efforts. Olivia Schiraldi settled in with nine points while Emma Urgo followed with eight points in the loss.

Norwich (4-3) hosts rival Oneonta on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
