NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado wrestling team returned home on Wednesday night against Chenango Forks. Norwich also honored its five seniors in the final home meet of the season.

Prior to the match, Norwich celebrated and recognized seniors Evan Meek, Regan Roach, Braden Reid, Patrick White, and Dakota Andrial. Congratulations on all your hard work and dedication this season and throughout your high school wrestling careers.

There were only five active matches on the night after Chenango Forks picked up 30 points in forfeits while Norwich had two forfeits with Meek and Roach both earning automatic wins on their special night. Norwich fought hard in each of those five matches.

Maverick Beckwith picked up a win by an 18-6 major decision, which Norwich added four points to the scoreboard. It was Beckwith’s 21st win of the season. The freshman is 21-3 overall. Teammate Jack Barnes also won by a 9-3 decision for his sixth win of the season.

Braden Reid and Patrick White also came away with big wins for Norwich. Reid had the quickest pin of the night on Chenango Forks’ Cason Caiati within 27 seconds. It is Reid’s 10th pin of the season.

White also earned a win by pin in a much more difficult setting against Forks’ Michael Moppert in 3:06. Norwich’s Jaxson Shaver fell to Forks’ Jason O’Connor in the 116 weight class by pin.

Norwich heads to Horseheads this weekend for the STAC wrestling tournament.
