SHERBURNE – It is always an exciting match-up between neighboring schools as the Sherburne-Earlville wrestling team hosted Norwich for its senior night. Prior to the match, the youth wrestling programs took the mat against one another, pumping up a full crowd standing on their feet. S-E also honored its two seniors following the youth matches.
Congratulations to Selina Moore and Lilly Cox, who have both inspired the start of women’s wrestling locally and state-wide. Norwich’s Jaxson Shaver and S-E’s Jackson Moore kicked off the night in the 116 weight class. Moore won in a 12-0 major decision, but Shaver stayed strong and didn’t let Moore earn a pin. S-E’s Manny Hollins didn’t give his opponent Regan Roach an easy win either. Yes, Roach won in a 16-4 major decision, but Hollins kept fighting throughout the final two periods.
It was an interesting match-up between senior Evan Meek and seventh grader Trenton Anderson in the 124 weight class with both wrestlers doing well for their respective teams. While Anderson stayed in place and didn’t let himself fall, Meek picked up the 13-0 major decision.
Selina Moore finally got the match rolling along with a quick pin against Norwich’s Aaron Bradbury with 1:18 remaining in the first period. Moore now has 13 pins on the season and improves to 15-6.
S-E continued to go ahead as Richie Fuller defeated Norwich’s Jack Barnes in 9-1 decision. Teammate Aiden Kiehn, who was named Most Outstanding wrestler in the Denny Wright Duals, was off to a strong start against Norwich’s Braden Reid, where he lifted and flipped him to earn an early two points. However, Reid got the upper hand and fought his way to an 11-5 victory.
