MORRISVILLE – After wrapping up the regular season with a 16-1 record, the Sherburne-Earlville wrestling team competed in the Central States League Tournament, held at Morrisville-Eaton High School. S-E scored an all-around high of 241 points to become league champions.
While doing well as a team, they also had three wrestlers become CSC champions as Jackson Moore, Landon Andrade, and Cody Clarkson won their respective weight class. Moore, a first-year S-E wrestler, won the tournament's 108 pound weight class, winning the two matches he competed in by two decisions.
Andrade, the team's leading wrestler with an outstanding 29-2 record, excelled in all four matches in the 285 pound weight class. He earned four pins with his quickest of the day within 18 seconds against Dolgeville's Darian Howe.
At the 145, 170, and 190 pound weight classes, S-E had to go against one another in some matches. Cody Clarkson became a league champion at a 170 pounds, where he went 4-0 and even competed against teammate Alex Campbell, who finished fourth, in a 2:32 pin. Clarkson's quickest pin was against Adirondack's Jesse Dragan in 31 seconds.
In the 145 pound weight class, Hadden Price finished fourth, where he defeated teammate Dylan Winton in a 3:38 pin. Winton finished sixth in the same weight class. Aiden Kiehn pinned teammate Richie Fuller in 24 seconds in the 190 pound weight class. Kiehn finished second while Fuller followed in third place.
Cameron Mason and Trenton Anderson took second in their weight class. Mason went 2-1 in the 138 pound weight class, including a 2:59 pin and a 15-0 major decision against Adirondack's Michael Weaver. He fell in the finals match against Dolgeville's Grayson Eggleston in a hard 5:50 pin. Anderson won with a 2:23 pin and by an 8-4 decision before falling in the 124 pound weight class finals to Little Falls' Nate Verri 6-4.
Aside from Richie Fuller's third place finish, Nick Miller and Justin Race also achieved third. Miller earned two wins by decisions and also a win in a 3:03 pin against Cooperstown's Elias Miritello in the 160 pound weight class. Justin Race finished third with a 3-1 record in the 152 pound weight class, including a quick 29 second pin against Dolgeville's Ezekiel Monk.
Manny Hollins picked up two wins to finish fourth in the 131 pound weight class while Cody Pierce finished sixth in the 116 pound weight class. S-E's Jonathan Conklin did not place in the meet, but will have more chances to in the years to come as only a freshman.
