NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm girls’ basketball team came out on top of Monday’s local MAC match-up against Oxford 41-30. With that win, they get back on track, snap a long losing streak, and pick up their fourth win in what has been a challenging season for the Lady Storm against tough league teams.

Both teams started out slow in the first quarter with just four points on each side. UV’s offense got a major boost in the second quarter to take a 20-9 lead at halftime. Jaiden Schrag scored 11 of the 20 team points before the break.

The Storm remained consistent in the third quarter, still holding Oxford to single-digit scoring. UV slowed up in the final eight minutes, which allowed Oxford to have their best scoring offense of the night with 15 points, but it wasn’t enough for an overall comeback. Jocie Finch led the Blackhawks’ fourth quarter efforts with seven points of her total nine points.

Jaiden Schrag led the Storm with 21 points with all six of the team’s points in the fourth quarter. Adrienne Hodge followed with nine points as Myriah Taylor and Emmalyn Montgomery both had four in the win.

Oxford’s Jocie Finch had nine points as Ava Benjamin knocked in two three’s to finish with eight points. Taegan Manwarren and Christine Seiler both scored four points in the loss.

UV (4-11) remains in third place of the MAC division II standings with a 2-2 divisional record while Oxford sits in fourth. UV hosts Harpursville for senior night on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. before they take on the Blackhawks again for their senior night on Friday. Oxford heads to Greene on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
