CORTLAND – Both Norwich and Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton indoor track teams had at least one thrower represent them this past Friday. This weight-throwers invitational was held at the JM McDonald Sports Complex in Cortland.
Junior Emma Beames was the lone participant for the BGA Bears in the shot put event. Emma threw a new personal best of 20 feet, one and a half inches that was good for 30th place. Norwich’s Lara Tefft and Olivia Palmer also competed in the shot put. Tefft achieved a best throw of 30 feet, nine inches for fourth place while Palmer finished 21st with her own personal best 23-9.
Tefft and Palmer led Norwich in the weight-throw as well. Tefft finished ninth with a throw of 30-5.75 as Palmer came in 17th place (26-0.5).
Gabe Blenis and Kaden Downey represented Norwich well in the men’s throwing events. Blenis took part in both the shot put and weight-throw events while Downey had a solid finish in the weight-throw.
Blenis finished 15th in the shot put with his new best throw of 36 feet, four and a half inches. His top performance of the night was in the weight-throw, where he came in seventh place with a throw of 51-1.5. Downey finished 23rd in the same event with a throw of 33-5.5.
Norwich is scheduled to compete in the Quinney STAC invitational on Saturday, February 3 while the throwers will be on Sunday, February 4. BGA’s next scheduled meet is the Section IV Classic on February 17.
