GREENE – After both teams lost out of going to the MAC championship game, the Greene Trojans and the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats wrapped up MAC play in the consolation game. Delhi and Sidney will play for the league title on Saturday at Unadilla Valley.
Greene and B-G had a tough game against one another in the regular season, where Greene won 6-43, so Thursday’s game was going to have the same intensity. It sure did in the high-scoring affair, which Greene won by more of a comfortable margin this time with a 67-58 victory. It was a great challenge before both teams head into sectionals.
Greene took a two-point 29-27 lead at halftime and steadied themselves in the third quarter. B-G stayed consistent as well to start the second half, but could not match Greene’s big run in the final eight minutes. The Trojans excelled with 23 points in the fourth quarter with 10 points coming off Jaden Eroshevich with six free throws as Parker Flanagan also helped out in the second half with his seven points. B-G had big help from its top leader James Hogroian with 12 of his dominant 31 points in the fourth quarter.
Eroshevich and Hogroian were strong leaders as they have been all year for their respective teams and in their final seasons. Hogroian finished with 31 points for the Bobcats with teammate Michael Lipani playing consistent with 17 points. Eroshevich led the Trojans with 27 points, where he went seven-for-eight at the foul line. Fellow senior Colin Colgan followed with 11 points, where he knocked down three three’s in the win.
Greene, who moved up to Class ‘B’ this year due to an increase in enrollment, will head to Chenango Valley, for a rematch from the regular season on Wednesday, February 21 at 6 p.m. Greene lost to the Warriors in overtime 57-56 and hope Wednesday’s sectionals game will go in their favor this time.
Bainbridge-Guilford stays in Class ‘C’ and hosts Marathon in the first round of sectionals on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Good luck to both teams.
