GREENE — Business owners Karman and Tim Harrington will soon be opening a new tavern and event establishment off of Route 12 in Greene, which was originally the Baron's Inn and, most recently, The Wild Owl restaurant.
Karman said she and her husband bought the vacant Baron's Inn property and restaurant a few years ago and reached out to find a tenant because, at the time, they weren't in a position to run a restaurant.
"The new tenant stayed for just about a year and then decided not to be here anymore, and that's when we decided to run it ourselves," Karman said.
She said the decision to open the establishment came quickly as the previous tenant decided he was not going to continue his business, and closed it abruptly. The family began bouncing text messages to each other regarding what the new name would be.
Karman said, "It was actually our daughter-in-law that came up with 1244, using the address itself, and then we decided it was important for the history of the building to include Baron's Inn."
"My husband and I have owned different businesses for about 18 years. Although we've never been in the restaurant business, we do know how to run a business," she said. "We brought on some of the key people who had previously been working here under the recent tenant, The Wild Owl."
