VA BEACH – Over the weekend, Sherburne-Earlville senior Selina Moore and junior Landon Andrade traveled to Virginia Beach to participate in the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Wrestling Nationals. After great seasons for S-E, the pair moved straight into club wrestling and continue to be strong on the mat. Andrade finished 3-2 on the weekend while Moore made it to the finals and won the 145 weight class in the women’s division. Both small town wrestlers were up against top ranked wrestlers from across the nation.
Moore started off in the round of 32, where she won by a 14-8 decision against New Jersey’s Olivia Georges and then pinned down Virginia’s Ciyanna Okocha in 1:29, which advanced her to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Florida’s Katherine Stewart in a 4-2 decision to reach the semi-finals. Moore won by major decision over Tennessee’s Sally Johnson 13-4 with one match remaining in the finals. Moore represented small Sherburne well as she took down North Carolina’s Faith Bane by a 3-1 decision to win the national crown. Great job, Landon and Congratulations, Selina.
