OXFORD – It was an exciting evening in Oxford as the Oxford Blackhawks and the Unatego Spartans softball teams battled it out on Monday. With the game tied at six after the seventh, Unatego added five runs in the eighth inning to win 11-6.
Unatego plated two runs in the first inning before Oxford answered back with three runs in the third. Abi Stone, Margaret Rovente, and Lily Marshman started off hot with three straight hits to start the inning. All would also score on great base running. Stone came in on Marshman’s RBI single after stealing second and going to third during Rovente’s at-bat. Both Rovente and Marshman stole home.
Unatego fought back in the fourth inning with three runs, but Oxford added two in the bottom half of the inning with two more steals of home. The Blackhawks scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Peyton Cummings hit a ground-out RBI. However, Unatego tied the game and sent it into extra innings, where they on to win.
Oxford’s Lily Marshman pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts in the loss.
